Coming from the oldest vines on the estate (80+-year-old vines located in the lieux-dits St.-Joseph and Paradis), the 2011 Saint Joseph Le Paradis Saint Pierre is a huge success in the vintage! Offering up classic aromas and flavors of smoked meat, pepper, flowers and chocolate-laced black raspberries, this medium to full-bodied, rich and layered 2011 has beautiful focus and precision, solid concentration and sweet tannin. It will continue to impress for 12-15 years or more.
Another rising star in the appellation that needs to be on every reader’s short list, Domaine Coursodon is run by the young, talented Jerome Coursodon. A fifth generation winemaker, Jerome traveled extensively before starting at the Domaine in 1999. The estate covers 38 acres, all in St. Joseph (most near the village of Mauves and Tournon). They make up to four separate St.-Joseph reds, and two whites, with the reds seeing close to 100% destemming and aging in a combination of demi-muids and burgundy barrels.
