Fermented on destemmed grapes with some added stems (not whole clusters), the 2016 Sommerhalde Sp?tburgunder GG offers a pure, fresh, intense and cassis-scented bouquet with saline, spicy and even greenish notes of tobacco and red, well-concentrated fruits. Dense and intense on the palate, this is a full-bodied, tightly structured, stimulatingly pure and fresh, well-concentrated but not really juicy Pinot that reveals a stringent yet rather thrifty finish that is a bit drying and lacks the generosity and intensity of a great wine. There might be further potential here, though, since the aftertaste is very long and energetic. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in October 2023.
