In fact, Julian Huber's very first vintage wasn't an easy one, namely for Pinot Noir that was affected by Drosophila suzukii flies and came in the basket with thick skins yet unripe phenols and low pH-levels, which is not a super smart combination. Vinified with 60% whole clusters, the 2014 Sommerhalde Sp?tburgunder GG is clear, pure, precise and fresh on the nose that shows well-concentrated red berry aromas. Full-bodied, tight and juicy, this is an intense, remarkably fresh and savory, still young and quite biting and slightly drying Pinot with tension but a rather thrifty finish. This is a somewhat protestant Pinot that will hardly become softer from here, which is also a result of the addition of too much sulfur. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in late October and early November 2023.
