The 2001 Syrah Santa Barbara exhibits plenty of oak in its bouquet along with scents of tar and juicy blackberry/currant fruit. Full-bodied and layered with low acidity as well as a plump, jammy finish, it will drink well for 4-5 years. This is an exuberant, crowd-pleasing, full-throttle offering that scores high on the hedonism scale. It may be less successful in terms of pure expressions of terroir or refinement. Tel.
