In September, the 1991 Alion Ribero del Duero will be the first wine released by this winery since its purchase by Vega Sicilia. Made from 100% Tempranillo and aged in small French oak casks, this is an impressive debut. It offers a rich, sweet, ripe, toasty, black-fruit-scented nose, opulent, lush, concentrated, full-bodied flavors, wonderful fatness as a result of high glycerin, and a silky smooth, heady finish. Approachable now, it should age beautifully for 10-12 years. For Vega Sicilia fans who have been waiting nearly a quarter of a century for this bodega to release the 1970 (according to Vega Sicilia, the greatest wine they have ever made), the official release is scheduled for 1995. Importer: Europvin USA, Watertown, MA.
