Tasted at the Chateau Palmer vertical in London, the 1955 Chateau Palmer is one of those venerable wines that I am so glad to have observed over a period of time. Initially it seems a little overshadowed by the 1953, feels a little rustic and disjointed, missing some detail. Coming back later, however, there is a magical transformation. The bouquet reveals a sublime, sorbet-like freshness with vibrant red cherry and strawberry fruit that "dances" with abandon. The palate is underpinned by candied red fruit that is sorbet fresh, with racy acidity and a sense of energy and animation on the finish that is entrancing. This is another great 1955 Left Bank wine from one of the most underrated post-war vintages. Tasted May 2015.
