Tasted at the Chateau Palmer vertical in London. While the 1945 Chateau Palmer is not among the top tier of this celebrated vintage, it remains an attractive Margaux after seven decades of service. It has a healthy, clear color with modest bricking on the rim. The bouquet is complex with vestiges of red berry fruit, dried rose petal and undergrowth, a touch of chlorophyll developing with time. Medium-bodied with supple and fine tannin, the acidity beautifully judged. There is a conservative element to this 1945 - almost bashful. It is not a profound wine, but its elegance is undeniable and adorned with a delicate citrus-fresh finish that is nicely poised. Drink soon if you chance upon a bottle. Tasted May 2015.
