The finest as well as potentially longest-lived of this trio is the 2003 Shiraz, a 500-case cuvee made from 10- to 80-year-old vines. Its inky/ruby/purple color is accompanied by intense aromas of licorice, melted road tar, blackberries, cassis, and new oak, a velvety, voluptuous texture, and a long, heady finish. Drink this beauty now and over the next decade. A new winery (I believe these are the debut releases), winemaker/proprietor Justin McNamee (who looks like a young Bob Dylan) worked at Giscours and Du Tertre in Bordeaux, followed by an apprenticeship at Napa’s Chateau Montelena. His first efforts are impressive, although I do not understand why anyone would play with Tempranillo given how well that grape does in Spain, and for a lot less money.Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel.
