The outstanding 2000 Rioja Coleccion Privada is an unfiltered, old vine (50+ years) Tempranillo cuvee aged 19 months in equal parts French and American oak. It boasts a deep ruby/purple color in addition to a sumptuous bouquet of black currants, cherries, spicy vanilla, graphite, and earth. This lovely, rich, medium-bodied Rioja possesses a supple texture, ripe tannin, and a long, concentrated finish. The bad news, there are only 250 cases for the USA. Enjoy it over the next 5-7 years.
