The 1997 Syrah displays a creme de cassis-dominated nose intermixed with smoky, earthy scents that emerge with airing. This dark ruby/purple-colored offering possesses full body, low acidity, lush, ripe fruit, a corpulent mouth-feel, and a soft, ripe finish. There is some tannin, but it is mostly buried beneath the cascade of fruit. If additional complexity develops, this Syrah will merit a higher rating. It should drink well for 8-10 years. Tel.
