The 2011 Cepas Vellas is produced from a selection of the oldest vines, fermented in stainless steel in contact with its lees for three months. The reticent nose requires some coaxing to reveal ripe yellow fruit notes of quince, peach and apricots with a spicy touch. The palate shows a serious, very well-proportioned wine, balanced, with good acidity, showing the concentration and intensity of the old vines and a mineral feeling to it. A serious, persistent Godello at a fantastic price. Drink 2013-2018.
Godeval was created in 1986 as a result of the Revival (Recuperacion de Vinedos de Valdeorras) project to recover the local Godello variety. They only produce white wines from Godello. They were one of the first to introduce Godello in the US in the 1990s, and still today 30% of their production is sold in America. They have 21 hectares of their own vineyards on the slopes of the Sil river, the oldest of which date from the early 1980s. They ferment in a mixture of stainless steel, cement and oak vats. They produce a grand total of 140,000 bottles of two different wines. Godeval wines are known because of their reliability and sensible pricing.
