The 2006 TOURIGA NACIONAL is delicious. Aromatic and bursting with flavor, this is another fine Crasto effort in this difficult vintage. In many years, this is a candidate for Portugal’s best mono-varietal wine, and it is again this year, although, considering value as well, I might give the nod in 2006 to Quinta das Marias ’06 Touriga Nacional at a fraction of the price. In any event, the oak here is too prominent at the moment, but aeration allows it to show some character to go with the aromatics and tasty fruit. There are moments when the mid-palate concentration seems lacking, but it has a sensual demeanor. I was unsure as to whether this had the persistence necessary to be an excellent wine, but it drank surprisingly well the next day, the flavors, however, still too dependent on oaky nuances. With some cellaring, this has a good chance to show better integration of its components, which it needs to do to receive an upgrade in score. Drink 2009-2016.
