A rarity from the island of Majorca, this 55% Cabernet Sauvignon / 45% Callet blend enjoyed a long maceration, and was then aged in a combination of French and - get this - Virginian oak barrels. From a red clay soil vineyard, the nose offers up notes of smoked meats, red and black fruits, and toasty wood. Cassis as well as cherry liqueur make an appearance on the succulent palate. An internationally styled effort, with dominant characteristics of new oak and jammy fruit, it is well-made, pure, and ideal for enjoying over the next decade. I suspect more regional characteristics (whatever they might be) may emerge with cellaring.Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates From Spain, Dedham, MA; tel. (781) 461-5767
