The 2009 Altos Las Pizarras del Jalon is also sourced from 70- to 100-year-old Grenache vines but in this case the wine spent 10 months in 40% new French 500-liter barrels. Smoky barrel notes along with cinnamon, clove, lavender, mineral, and black cherry aromas lead to a modestly structured red that will benefit from 1-2 years of additional cellaring. In the glass it displays excellent depth, concentration, and length. It offers a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2021.
Bodegas y Vinedos Del Jalon is the producer of the well known Vina Alarba label as well as higher level wines from the Garnacha capital of Calatayud.
