The 2009 Semillon, (a grape variety rarely seen in Argentina), was sourced from 60-year-old ungrafted vines with 15% of the wine aged in new American oak and bottled without fining or filtration. Light gold in color, it exhibits an alluring perfume of melon, bee's wax, baking spices, and spring flowers. Dry and smooth textured with a sense of elegance, this nicely balanced, lengthy effort will provide pleasure for another 4-5 years. A tank sample of the 2010 appears to be at least equally promising. Mendel, where the talented Roberto de la Mota presides as winemaker, has an outstanding set of new releases including one white wine.Importer: Vine Connections, Sausalito, CA; tel.
