The 2014 Montviel has a pretty nose of red berry fruit, brown spices and sous-bois, the oak neatly integrated, harmonious and engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with fine supple tannin, a keen line of acidity and blessed with a silky, seductive finish that deserves applause for its purity. This was the late Catherine Père-Vergé's entry-level Pomerol and I think she would have been quietly proud of this.
